Introduction. During activation of cells involved in the cellular
immune response against tumor antigens, the stimulation markers
appear on the surface of the cells.
Aim. The aim of this study was to analyze the function of autologous
peripheral blood cells on the expression excitation of
markers of T lymphocytes in the patients with squamous cell
Material and methods. The analysis included a group of 55
patients with verified squamous cell carcinoma of the larynx.
The pTNM classifcation criteria, tumour histological grade and
tumour invasion have been included in the assay performed.
The expression of the stimulation markers in the blood cells of
patients was assessed using the techniques of immunofluorescence
labeling in whole blood.
Results. Increased expression of the early CD8/CD69 and
the late CD4/HLA/DR activation antigens on T lymphocytes in
peripheral blood of patients with carcinoma of the larynx was
an indicator of more advanced tumors evaluated on the basis
of pT characteristics.
Conclusions. The study indicates the importance of the estimation
of T lymphocytes activity as a biomarker of advanced
changes and progression of tumour in patients with laryngeal
